Having an anxious mind but a laid-back personality isn’t always easy. We’re able to keep all that anxiety in our heads while maintaining a chill exterior. Although we fear losing control, we understand that there’s nothing we could do to prevent it.

So, when we’re surrounded by loved ones, we become secretly anxious. We don’t want our anxiety to overwhelm them as well. But there are a few things to keep in mind before dating someone who’s secretly anxious:

1. WE’LL SEEM COMPLETELY LAID-BACK ON THE FIRST DATE…

But we’re actually freaking out. We’re over-thinking everything from whether our outfit is on point to what to order on the menu that won’t make us sick to what non-boring topics we can talk about.

2. …WHICH IS WHY WE LIKE CHILL DATES.

Like cooking with you or going to see a Broadway show. It’s important for us to get comfortable with you and not have to feel like we’re breaking some kind of dating law.

3. WE’RE HIGHLY AFFECTIONATE.

Kissing you helps to calm our running minds. We like to be held and loved because being wrapped in your arms takes the fear away.

4. WE WORRY ABOUT YOU A LOT.

But we won’t tell you that because we don’t want you to think that we’re clingy…or a stalker. We tend to think the worst whenever we don’t hear from you for a long time. Or when you get sick, we’ll be secretly raiding WebMD to make sure you don’t have anything deadly.

5. WE’LL SOMETIMES LEAVE DURING INTENSE ARGUMENTS.

At that point, our anxiety will be through the roof and we literally can’t deal. Confrontation makes us crazy uncomfortable and although we’d like to think we’re strong enough to deal with it, we’re not. We certainly don’t want you to see us cry.

6. WE’LL TELL THE TRUTH, EVEN IF OUR VOICE SHAKES.

Honesty is such a hard thing for us because your reaction to it is completely out of our control. But at the same time, we want to grow in relationship with you.

7. SOME OF OUR DATES WILL INCLUDE TAKING WALKS IN THE PARK.

Going to a bookstore or chilling in a cafe because these are the places we go to relax when we get stressed out and having you here with us takes the anxiety away completely.

8. WE’LL GET ALONG WITH YOUR FRIENDS.

We like to be easy-going when it comes to meeting new people. But we are also highly aware of oursleves and want your friends to think that we’re cool people. Which is why we’re always wondering what they think of us.

9. YOU’RE A KEEPER IF YOU COULD TAKE A PROFESSIONAL NAP WITH US.

Taking an occasional long nap is one of the ways we release stress and there’s nothing better than taking one with you. Just don’t wake us up if we’re still sleeping.

10. DON’T BE AFRAID TO BRING US OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONE.

We actually like to be pushed out of our comfort sometimes because it helps us to take another step out of our anxiety. It’s like going on a roller coaster ride. We’ll be terrified at first but once we do it, we’ll want to go again.

11. WE LOVE YOUR EXCITEMENT…

Because it encourages us to be more adventurous with you and helps us to see the world in a better light.

12. …AND WE’LL FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR BROKENNESS.

Because we understand that flaws reveal who you really are and we’d love to have those nights where we match up your scars with ours.
